 Synopsis

“Orange” by 7!! is a reminiscent song of childhood love and hope for the future. Even if the future the singer and her beloved have taken are not the same, she hopes that they both enjoy their time. And when they’ve brought up their own love-filled family, she hopes they could meet once more to enjoy the evening glow they saw as children. And even if being parted feels lonesome, she’ll take her time to embrace the fond memories they had together…

Lyrics

chiisana kata wo narabete aruita
As we walked together, with our shoulders side by side
nandemonai koto de waraiai onnaji yume wo mitsumeteita
As we laughed over pointless subjects, we were looking at the same dream
mimi wo sumaseba ima demo kikoeru
If I try to listen, I can still hear it now
kimi no koe ORENJI iro ni somaru machi no naka
Your voice, in the town that is dyed in an orange pastel

Without you here, it’s so boring
sabishii to ieba warawarete shimau kedo
Although people would laugh at me if I said it’s lonely
nokosareta mono nando mo tashikameru yo
I’ll review all of that has been left behind
kieru koto naku kagayaiteiru
Because they keep shining, without disappearing

ameagari no sora no youna kokoro ga hareru youna
Just like the clear sky after the rain, or a cleansed soul
kimi no egao wo oboeteiru omoidashite egao ni naru
I recall your smile, and recalling it makes me smile
kitto futari wa ano hi no mama mujaki na kodomo no mama
I’m sure, just like how we were on that day, just like innocent kids
meguru kisetsu wo kakenuketeiku sorezore no ashita wo mite
We keep running through the passing seasons, looking at all kinds of tomorrows

hitori ni nareba fuan ni naru to
When I feel uneasy upon becoming alone
nemuritakunai yoru wa hanashi tsudzuketeita
I would keep talking into the sleepless nights

kimi wa kore kara nani wo miteikun darou
I wonder what you’ll see from here on
watashi wa koko de nani wo miteikuno darou
And I wonder what I’ll see here from now on
shizumu yuuyake ORENJI ni somaru machi ni
In the town dyed in orange from the setting sun
sotto namida wo azukete miru
I’ll let myself cry a few tears*

nan’oku mo no hikari no naka umareta hitotsu no ai
Among the tens-of-thousands of stars that shine*, a single love was born
kawaranakute mo kawatteshimatte mo kimi wa kimi dayo shinpai nai yo
You don’t have to change, and even if you do, you are you, so don’t worry*
When we one day become adults, and meet up with someone amazing
kakegae no nai kazoku wo tsurete kono basho de aeru to ii na
It would be wonderful if we could meet at this place with our irreplaceable families

ameagari no sora no youna kokoro ga hareru youna
Just like the clear sky after the rain, or a cleansed soul
kimi no egao wo oboeteiru omoidashite egao ni naru
I recall your smile, and recalling it makes me smile
nan’oku mo no hikari no naka umareta hitotsu no ai
Among the million of stars that shine, a single love was born
meguru kisetsu wo kakenuketeiku sorezore no ashita wo mite
We keep running through the passing seasons, looking at all kinds of tomorrows
sorezore no yume wo erande
Choosing all kinds of dreams

Translation Notes

  • The lyrics here in raw translates to “I’ll offer some tears gently”. In truth though, this is referring to the nature of not crying in front of certain individuals, instead doing so to others or inanimate objects. The concept may be foreign to some, but it holds the same meaning as the translations offered above: “I’ll let myself cry a few tears”.
  • “Stars” was not used in the original lyrics, but in comparison to “light”, it offers a better imagery to readers.
  • “You don’t have to change, and even if you do”…the singer is telling her beloved that she’ll accept him however he is. Whether if he’s the same as he was in their childhood or is a new man, to the singer, “you are you”.

Author’s Notes

This song is such a bliss. While some chords are typical, I find this song as entrancing as the anime series. I recommend the series to anyone who wants a little sugar and salt in contrast to the typical romantic comedy that comes around.

In a similar way to “Mado no Soto wa mou Nichiyoubi“,  the lyrics are unlike those scene in western music. This could be an ignorant though, so I apologize to those who are offended, but in most love songs of the West, the subject is usually about “you and I together” in the positive sense or “me without you” in the romantic sense or “you without me” in the negative sense. But here, this song is closer to  “myself, living on without you” in a nostalgic mood. It’s not entirely negative, but neither is it full of positives. It mixes up emotions and talks about living on, wishing her lover well instead of griping about how her assumed first love will not be granted. It’s the type of love that I like, one that endures even if it’s not fully reciprocated.
